Vintage Grace Jones Salado Plum Sheared Fur Vest & Skirt Set

A matching vintage fur set from Grace Jones of Salado, the legendary Texas couture boutique where Hollywood actresses and Lady Bird Johnson shopped. Opened in 1962 by former WWII pilot and New York model Grace Jones, the shop was the Central Texas rival to Neiman Marcus for 40 years. (This is the Salado boutique, not the singer.)

The set is a deep plum/aubergine genuine fur that appears to be sheared, dyed rabbit, pieced in a soft patchwork. You can see the leather skin backing where the lining lifts, so it's real fur. The vest has a stand-up collar with a snap at the neck, a front zipper and a black satin lining with the original Grace Jones Salado Texas label. The skirt is a lined, straight pencil style with a back zipper and hook closure.

Wear them together for a dramatic holiday look, or split them up: the vest over a turtleneck and jeans, the skirt with boots and a sweater.

Condition

• Fur is full and soft with no bald spots that we've found
• Lining is loose in a few spots at the hem, where you can peek at the leather backing (shown in photos)
• Chipped paint on the vest's zipper pull
• Light vintage storage scent; it's been airing out
